Valves

Valve maintenance is of critical importance in oilfield production.

Periodic maintenance of valves, ESD systems and chokes, ensures that the equipment operates and seals properly. Without a proper servicing schedule, valves can corrode, fail to operate, and ultimately cause a loss of product. These problems can be minimized with the implementation of a valve maintenance schedule.

Valves require a scheduled service program

Scheduled, preventative valve maintenance can add years to the service life, reduce the costs of repairs and minimize the need for valve replacements. A solid maintenance schedule will prevent:

  • Rusting stem threads.
  • Drying and hardening of stem packing.
  • Build up of dirt, rust, slag, sand, etc.
  • Restricted seat travel.
  • Torque damage to seat materials and O-rings.
  • Internal corrosion.

  • When to call for service:
  • The valve(s) is leaking through the bore with the valve fully closed.
  • The valve(s) will not fully open or close.
  • The valve(s) is hard to operate, or operates erratically.
  • The valve(s) handwheel turns, but valve(s) do not operate.
  • The valve(s) are leaking pressure.
